We’re hiring!

Are you a mom living in Victoria, Calgary or Toronto? Are you blogging for yourself and realizing that it’s hard to make any kind of income doing that?

We’re Growing!

City Mom Now is expanding and we’re looking for local City Managers to manage our respective local sites. If you’re a professional-turned-stay-at-home mom with experience creating online content, who loves connecting with other moms, telling them about what makes your city fabulous, and addicted to social media, then read on.

You’re In the Know

As a City Manager, you’re on the pulse of what’s happening in your city – and you’re dying to tell other moms too. An interesting pop-up store open in your ‘hood? Your local coffee shop just add a kids’ colouring section? Our sites cover cool fashion boutiques, profiles on local designers and artists, local event coverage, secret hiking trails and parks and other interesting views on what’s happening in your neighbourhood – all from a mom’s perspective.

What You’d Do

Our City Managers work part-time flexible schedules from home and are responsible for the following:

  • Adhering to a regular publication schedule. You may write, podcast or video it yourself, or you will recruit an army of local moms who are interested in sharing their knowledge of the latest trends in their respective neighbourhoods.
  • Manage directory listings of local businesses. Liaise with businesses to ensure that they have been submitted in our directory so that other moms know about it.
  • Assume our various local social media identities, namely Facebook and Twitter, to connect with readers and advertisers.
  • Build relationships with local businesses and convert them to advertisers.
  • Create a weekly newsletter

What You Bring

This is considered to be a business building role, with heavy weight placed on generating revenue and promoting the site. While our city managers receive a base, the real compensation is in generating revenue and sales and attracting readers. As such, in addition to wicked content ideas about your city, you must have:

  • Master networking skills. You have a passion for connecting with people. A blog titled “80 coffee meetings in 80 days” would be right up your alley.
  • Artful business development skills. You get what a feature vs a benefit is. You know how to articulate value proposition and aren’t afraid of closing.
  • Professional maturity to be able to talk to businesses about what makes their enterprises tick.
  • Keen understanding of what makes our sites unique. We are urban content that delivers local culture, style and trends to moms. We are are not a blog or parenting site.
  • Actively blogging, preferably providing reviews of products, stores, restaurants, travel experiences.
  • Amateur level photography, but with a creative and artful eye.
  • Addiction to social media
  • Pride in taking 100% responsibility for everything you do.

What You Get

  • Opportunity to grow with a soon-to-be recognized national network of sites. This role starts off small, but can become something big (Director? VP?) if you are meeting targets. Might be perfect timing if you’re home with your kids and are looking to transition into a larger role when they are off to school in a few years time.
  • Real accomplishment over building a local brand and leading your team.
  • Exposure and training on cutting edge techniques for running an online operation, including social media, SEO, video and more.
  • Full responsibility and bragging rights to say you built something from the ground up.

We are a young, growing company. Now is the time to get in and build something amazing.
