If you like chocolate, good food, coffee and…did I mention…chocolate…then Ohh Chocolat is one place you need to visit! The Paninis are yummy, the gluten free brownies melt in your mouth and the spicy Mayan hot chocolate warms you up from the inside-out. As a chocolate lover, writing about Ohh Chocolat was no TRUFFLE at all! Caroline Longhurst , the owner and Master Chocolatier of Ohh Chocolat, provides “Wholesome Goodness for Your Heart and Soul”.
Ohh Chocolat is located in downtown Prince George on the corner of 6th Avenue and George Street. Angled parking is available on both sides of George Street. There is also parallel parking along 6th Avenue for drivers who like a challenge.
The street corner location is perfect since it allows for big windows! This means that if it is -30 degrees Celsius and sunny you can still enjoy natural light shining through the windows. The big windows are great for people watching too!
With the closing of Antiques on 6th, Ohh Chocolat has replaced the antique tables with a mixture of tables that are different heights and styles that seat two, four, six or eight. The tables are perfectly spaced so you can easily park an umbrella stroller beside you too! During the summer small bistro tables are located outside along the windows so you can enjoy the short summer season here in Prince George.
The Dishes and Drinks
After tasting a free chocolate sample you can step up to the counter to place your order. The menu is full of some fresh homemade baked goods, breakfast sandwiches, sandwiches, Paninis, soups, and salads. Here is my idea of a tasty breakfast:
For lunch, I am a fan of Paninis and Ohh Chocolat has very tasty Paninis. You could also enjoy one of these tasty menu items:
While eating you can enjoy a coffee, latte, espresso, cappuccino, hot chocolate or Mayan hot chocolate. I recently discovered that real chocolate is used as an ingredient in the hot chocolates and mochas. Yum!
There are some great gluten free, vegan and vegetarian choices too! You can find their light lunch menu on their website here.
When it comes to the kids you can share you tasty meal or get them their own muffin, scone or piece of banana loaf. You just need to check out the baked goods to see what your little one would like. If you have a child with nut allergies keep in mind that the chocolate may contain nuts or traces of nuts. Afterwards they can wash down their goodies with a glass of milk, fruit juice, water or even a fruit smoothie.
Ohh Chocolat, Truffles and Desserts
The chocolates are all beautifully handcrafted in the café. Just before you savour it melting in your mouth take a moment to appreciate the care and details that goes into making the chocolates. You could also enjoy one of the truffles, which Ohh Chocolats website explains, are a chocolate ganache centre with a chocolate or cocoa powder coating. If you are looking for something besides chocolate then maybe a cupcake, cookies or muffin will satisfy your sweet tooth.
Family Friendly Feeling
As soon as you walk in Ohh Chocolat the staff are ready to take care of you! You can tell that Caroline Longhurst has an amazing team. Once you place your order you usually do not need to wait very long. If there is a bit of a wait, the staff will make sure to get your order to you. Kids are not always known for the patience so this kind of customer service is nice when you are out with the kids.
Other kid friendly features at Ohh Chocolat include a high chair and, as mentioned above, the table spacing is perfect for parking a stroller beside your table. There is not a change station in the bathroom yet, but Caroline said that she has it on her list of things to add during the next round of renovations.
Ohh Chocolat is a wonderful place with an affordable menu where the moms can go, for breakfast, coffee and lunch, with or without their kids in tow. Make sure to check out Ohh Chocolats Facebook page to see new features, new creations, and upcoming news at the café.
