We recently had a birthday in the family and decided to go and celebrate at Simon Holt, a locally owned and operated restaurant in North Nanaimo. This place was large, beautiful and very inviting. It’s too bad that it was rainy that evening, because I hear that the roof top deck has gorgeous ocean and mountain views. I will have to visit there again during nicer weather.
Simon Holt’s Chef Aaron creates all the dishes, dressings, dips, sauces, and desserts from scratch and it shows. Dinner was truly out of this world. Everyone in our party (8 adults and 3 kids) loved their meals. Even the kids chicken strips meal was incredible – made with actual chicken and hand breaded. Yum!
I had mushroom and white bean soup to start with. Perfect for West Coast weather, it really warmed up my insides and was very tasty too. Then I ordered the special for the day: Cod Toscana. It was a walnut pesto crusted cod with grilled zucchini and heirloom tomatoes with bruschetta toast. Doesn’t it look wonderful? And it tasted amazing.
Everyone gave their dinner a huge thumbs up. My cousin, Janik, loved the Vancouver Island Seafood Chowder and highly recommends it. “Chef’s two time “Chowderfest” winning recipe! made to order with local seafood, leek, roasted corn, potato, white wine & cream, topped with chopped bacon & green onion.”
Dinner was a great experience, and it was a wonderful family atmosphere. We’ll be back.
