City Mom Now has come alive in Durham Region and this urbanite Mom is delighted to be getting down and dirty in the place she calls home.  Reaching out to the Town of Ajax, Municipality of Clarington, City of Oshawa, City of Pickering, Township of Scugog, Township of Uxbridge and Town of Whitby, your new City Mom Now – City Leader is here to discover and share the many hidden gems our Durham Region has to offer.

A bit about me.  I am recently on leave from my busy job as a Behaviour Analyst and have taken up full-time work as Mom to a bouncing baby boy and Stepmom to two beautiful kiddos.  By day, I play master chef, diaper changer, dish washer, floor scrubber, child entertainer, gardener and dog whisperer. By night I am an avid Karaoke connoisseur, guitar maven, wine taster and soul food junkie.

Admittedly, I moved to the Durham Region, with some reluctance, from a small town.  My previous town was filled with quaint mom and pop shops, street buskers, art galleries, and walking paths galore. Big box stores were few and far between.  A Walmart, yes but a Supercenter, not quite.

Moving to the GTA was a huge culture shock for me, surrounded by Smart Centers and house upon house; I didn’t even know where to begin to feel at home.  Though I have come to appreciate the convenience of having everything I need within a 10 km radius, I did miss the warm fuzzy feeling of small town life.  Since moving here in 2009, I have made it a personal mission to immerse myself in the GTA culture and take the time to discover its many shops, eateries, events and outdoor activities.  Most times with family in tote.  Over and over, I have come to find that I had seriously underestimated OUR region.  Urban sophistication, surrounded by rolling hills, farms and small towns makes this region a place with something for everyone.

Are you someone I need to meet?  Have an event I shouldn’t miss?  What about a cool neighborhood to stroll?  Or a pie I just have to try?  Be sure to let me know leslie.bosman@citymomnow.com

Looking forward to embarking on this adventure together!
